About this Nominee
For the past 10 years Dr. Borton has made Carnegie a fun and welcoming environment for students. Dr. Borton has been the Activities Director running rallies, dances, field trips, themed days, promotion, the Carnegie canned food drive for the Orangevale Food Bank, the Carnegie Toy drive for Shrinner's Hospital, Promotion, the Talent Show, Field Days and basically everything fun that happens at Carnegie. He also teaches History, English for English Learners, and Drama. Dr. Borton is usually the first one at school and the last one to leave. He sacrifices his time to make Carnegie a place welcoming to every student. One year he ran 7 clubs alone amongst his other duties. It is rare to not see him in the halways giving high-fives and greeting students, making them feel special and seen.
This year he broke his back 3 days before school began damaging old injuries he had from the Army. But he still showed up to school for his students. Dr. Borton defied doctor's advice and taught his kids because he relishes any moment he can to help kids become better. His dedication and determination to make an impact on this school and community sends ripples through Orangvale.
